Mumbai's first major Power Outage since October 2020

The morning of 27 Feb 2022 proved to be unexpectedly inconvenient for many of Mumbai’s residents as a massive power outage cut off their electricity and also affected the city’s lifeline– its local trains.

Around 50 trains were cancelled and 140 got delayed owing to a transmission grid failure at the Trombay power plant. Many residential areas in south and central Mumbai lost electricity for more than an hour.

Power disruptions are rare occurrences in Mumbai. The last major outage was in October 2020 and lasted for up to 18 hours.

While the recent power cut only lasted for an hour, such large-scale power outages can sometimes lead to unexpected damages.

Frequent voltage fluctuations and power cuts can cause irreversible damage to electronic devices, equipment or any machinery used by factories and plants. And getting these equipment repaired can require a lot of money.

This is where policies like Electronic Equipment Insurance and Machinery Breakdown Insurance can help!

These policies cover electronic equipment and machines from physical damage caused by short circuits, voltage fluctuations, impact damage, fire, and several other risks.

With the help of these insurance policies, businesses can quickly recover the repair or replacement costs of essential equipment and ensure continuous business activity without any financial harm.

Authorities have ordered a high-level probe into the 70-minute power breakdown on 27 Feb and are considering extending the life of the Trombay plant given its importance to the city.
